Terracina

Set between the mountains and the Mediterranean, Terracina combines coastal scenery with a rich historical heritage. For centuries, its location along the ancient Appian Way made it an important stop on the route between Rome and southern Italy, where travelers, merchants and goods moved between inland territories and the coast.

In the historic center, Roman remains blend with medieval buildings, lively squares and narrow streets. The ancient forum, stretches of Roman paving and the cathedral reveal how successive generations reshaped the town while preserving connections to its past.

High above Terracina, the Sanctuary of Jupiter Anxur overlooks the coastline, offering sweeping views of the sea and surrounding landscape. Together, the town and its setting help students understand how geography influenced Roman roads, trade and daily life. Local food traditions add another dimension to the visit, connecting Terracina’s history with the community that lives here today.
